Reading Minds

If you could read minds for a day, would you? I saw this post on the The Daily Post, a post a day/week blog sponsored by Wordpress. Obviously,  I blog on Blogger but I used to use Wordpress and I have a few friends who do. I am going to be following this blog for inspiration from now on, that way I am not just blogging about myself, Ricky or our dog. Change things up a bit :-)

So, back to the question :
If you could read minds for a day, would you?

My first reaction to this question would be to say right away, sure why not? That would be awesome! However, I know think to myself about all of the things I wouldn't want to hear. Like in the morning, when I am buying my coffee, and someone says "Good Morning, how are you?" The polite thing to say back is "Fine, how are you?" usually without any sort of elaboration, because honestly most of the time people are just being cordial and in fact do not really care how you are. It's not a negative thing, we all do it/think it but we don't want to be rude. I think I would find myself rather annoyed if I had to hear about a complete stranger's state of emotions. I am sure if I could read minds, I would hear thoughts ranging from "My life is ruined, I hate my job and I am completely miserable" to "I'm actually fantastic! My husband totally rocked my world this morning!" Either response, or for that matter any response in between, would just be over sharing and in my mind not appropriate to hear from strangers.
Then I think about all the times you say something nice to someone when you are thinking the very opposite in your head. Again, I know I am not the only one to do this. Sometimes it is better to be nice to someone, and make them feel better than to tell them the truth. If I could read minds, I would know when someone was thinking and saying something different.
I was taught if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all not if you can't think something nice, don't think it at all!

So, in all honesty, I would have to say no. I would not want the ability to read minds, at least not in every day situations.

I realize this post makes me sound rather evil, but I am not. I am just being honest :-)

How about you, would you want to have the ability to read minds?
